What to expect from your conceptual shoot with Dawndra

Seattle Witchy Maternity Photographer

Hello and Welcome. Thank you so much for

being here.

WARNING! LONG WINDED POST

If you are interested in one of my conceptual shoots, I am sure you must have questions! I would love to answer those for you, and I will scratch the surface here. Feel free to ask more! I’ll just jump right in.

LOCATION? Where should we shoot?

We can get creative and weird at ANY park. I just need a forest and some good light. However I do have my favorites. I will add a few images in this post from my favorite Seattle Park - Lincoln Park in West Seattle. Also from Lincoln Park- we can get to Alki beach and finish the shoot on a sandy beach in just 10 minutes- and feel free to get in the water. If we do the Alki thing, I recommend a weekday. There is also a closer beach called LOWMAN beach to end at - and that is small and usiually I just end there for like 20 minutes. It’s one minute from Lincoln’s forested park in a car.

DOES IT HAVE TO BE “WITCHY?”

No! We can do a boho vibe/earthy vibe, a princess/queen/ king vibe…

INVESTMENT?

To secure your date, I ask a $250 deposit -and the rest of the payment is due the day we shoot.

Conceptual sessions are 1350.00 and include a gallery of hand edited images and a short video.

HOW LONG IS THE SHOOT?

The shoot is about 2 hours. Can go a little quicker or a little over that. Believe me it goes by in a flash and it’s fun!

DO YOU HAVE A TRAVEL FEE?

Yes. Let me know where you want to go -and I can quote you.

Okay, locations!

LINCOLN PARK WEST SEATTLE

I love this park because I know it like the back of my hand, it’s not a super hard walk (I like to bring a cart full of props and lighting) and it’s a witchy magical forest. I know this place like the back of my hand and I refer to it as my studio.

I cannot bring the cart of props everywhere, so this place allows more fun props to play with.

GOLD CREEK POND

THIS LOCATION IS CLOSING JAN 2025

Gold Creek Pond up at Snoqualmie Pass is one of my favorite locations to shoot at. I avoid weekends there if at all possible, and shooting at sunset can prove to be a late night- but so worth it! It’s an hour from Seattle, and a 5 minute walk to the pond.

I have had the pond to myself at sunset on a weekend if you can stay late! BRING BUG SPRAY!!!

THIS SPOT IS SEASONAL!

Will I shoot nudes?

Heck yes, get naked! BE YOU! Let’s just talk about it in advance first so that I can plan for privacy. Also bring a towel or small blanket to wrap yourself in so that you can toss it off - and I can toss it back to you- much quicker cover up than getting dressed if needed.

I bring lanterns as a prop!

THE FOREST BEHIND YOUR HOUSE

The next three images (below) were a group of ladies who like to get together and do witchy things and they wanted some imagery showing this - and their daughters popped in the shoot for 20 minutes at the beginning.

Styling groups can be tricky because if one person doesn’t fit the theme the whole vibe can get thrown. So we just have to make sure we have everyone on the same page.

I did this shoot with a group of witches and their daughters in the forest behind their house in Gig Harbor WA.

This dress is in my client closet to use - it’s small/ medium. I had it made on ETSY.

FRANKLIN FALLS

This dress is in my client closet. This was shot in summer when the waterfall was small. It’s much more powerful the rest of the year. Some people like to add this stop on when on the way to Gold Creek Pond (adds a lot of time let’s talk) It’s a small hike like 15 minutes and can get very busy, but there is a cool tree on the way in (below)

Cool tree on the way to the waterfall.

Recently I did a motorcycle shoot and I had a video made of the process!

YOU CAN SHOOT WITH THE OWLS~!

For this shoot he met us at GoldCreek with the birds, but now he does the shoots on his forested property (below)

Seattle Witch Book

Self Portrait with Wednesday the Owl

CAN I SHOOT WITH THE OWLS? Yes. It is an additional $500 paid to The Falconer. This is his WEBSITE - He is located in Carnation Washington and we can shoot on his property (above) He has two owls and a vulture.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR and BRING TO THE SHOOT? DO YOU STYLE?

Wear leggings or legging shorts and a fitted tank top, so that you can change outside and not be naked(if you care). You may still have to take those things off it they aren’t hidden. I usually shoot with long dresses so the shoes don’t usually matter, but if you don’t have the right shoes, barefoot is great! So bring flip flops or slip on shoes that you can take on and off easily. Water shoes and a towel if your going in the water. Wear a warm jacket that you can throw over your dress if it’s cold. A hot drink in a thermos also if it’s cold- hand warmers are amazing for the chilly shoots. If we shoot in the mountains, think about bug spray. Maybe a snack? Keep yourself happy. Make-up touch ups, a brush, all the things you might need to touch up like powder. Try to keep it as light and simple as possible at the same time.

Think about what bra you are wearing with your dress or outfit!

For men - I cannot style you with anything from my closet, but I can help you shop! Woman -I have a small collection of dresses I can loan out for the shoot, but only if I have the right fit for you! You may already own something or have to shop. I ONLY OWN SMALL AND MEDIUM DRESSES because they fit me and I use them.

PLACES TO SHOP and inspiration

Here is a PINTEREST BOARD I made for inspiration on what to wear

I love this site for vintage inspired dresses - more of a whimsical feel

I LOVE Holy Clothing for affordable theatrical/witchy dresses

I have an AMAZON list here for ideas

HERE IS AN ETSY LINK … these can get pricey but fun to look! I made sure to add affordable stuff too.

DETAILS, DETAILS…

Conceptual sessions are 1350.00 and the edited images are included. We shoot for about two hours - and you get a gallery of 60-80+ edited images. First we choose a date, I send a contract, then we talk location and styling. If you wear small medium, I can bring dresses and I do bring props.

I DO NOTPHOTOSHOP CASTLES OR DRAGONS IN YOUR PHOTOS:) JUST A FEW CROWS OR BATS WHEN IT LOOKS RIGHT. Please don’t send me a Pinterest board full of stuff like that, I will breathe into a brown paper bag:)

The images can take up to two months to receive, but you will see some in the mean time while you wait- usually the day after we shoot. When finished, you will receive a gallery of your high resolution images to print and save. You can order prints from me on there.

To book a shoot, I take a $250 deposit, Venmo and PayPal both work great, and I have square. The rest of the payment is due by the day we shoot. I can accept three payments if you would like.

What if it rains? We just play it by ear and if we have to reschedule - that happens! Think of it as more time for ideas. If by chance our shoot gets cut short by rain- I WILL MAKE IT UP TO YOU. Even though that is a huge pain in the butt, think of it as two shoots.

WHAT TIME OF DAY? I shoot the two hours before sunset, unless it’s winter and cloudy we can go anytime.

I do my conceptual shoots outside in NATURE, no studios.

Skull in my collection

Do I edit skin, ect?

Yes. I believe that a little smoothing and sculpting is okay, but if you do not want this, let me know! And I keep it within reason, you are beautiful the way you are.

DO YOU HAVE A DRESS I CAN WEAR AND DO YOU BRING PROPS?

I have a decent variety of dresses that you are more than welcome to wear, but they are all small or medium. We can talk about those. I bring a bag of props like lanterns candles ect, but feel free to send me photos of anything you want to bring.

SMOKE BOMBS

I love smoke bombs and only use when appropriate. In the dry summer they can be used next to water. You can purchase those here or here. I suggest buying three, I love the black and the white for a more natural look- but the teal and red or orange can be super fun too. I suggest ordering them right away they take a while and might need signed for.

DO I DO HAIR/MAKE UP?

No, but I highly recommend you do it yourself or go to get it done. Even if you like the natural look, you can get natural make up done. I definitely suggest powder, mascara, and light or dark lips. But honestly you can also just come as you are!

THERE ARE A FEW RULES:

You shall not screenshot or crop my work(unless for an album), you shall not put any filters on my work or alter it in any way(yes you can use on stories and put words on) I ask that my work is credited appropriately. I retain the rights to the images and have the right to use for magazines, websites, social media ect. If there is a private image such as a nude or partial nude, I would not do so without permission. I appreciate you immensely for this. If you do not want me to post, please let me know I am a nice human.

Bring some drip candles!
