The History Of Witches - Seattle Witch Photographer
The history of witches is a complex and varied one that spans many cultures and time periods. I am fascinated with it, and long to know if there is witches in my bloodline. The concept of witches as we understand it today has its roots in Europe during the medieval and early modern periods, when belief in the supernatural was widespread and people were deeply superstitious.
During this time, many people, especially women, were accused of practicing witchcraft, and they were often persecuted and punished for it. In many cases, these accusations were based on rumors, gossip, or simple misunderstandings, and the punishments could be brutal, including torture and execution.
The question of what is a witch lies within the eye of the beholder. I don’t believe that a witch has to read taro or cast spells, as ultimately amazing as those things are. Witches create humans from their very bodies. They are woman who manifest their dreams and take control of their life and see the magic in everything. I believe all woman are witches, some just don’t know it.
The belief in witches and witchcraft continued to be prevalent in Europe and its colonies for many centuries, and it played a significant role in the infamous Salem Witch Trials in colonial America, where 19 people were executed for witchcraft.
The depiction of witches in popular culture has also played a role in shaping our understanding of them. In literature, film, and television, witches have been portrayed as everything from evil, malevolent creatures to benevolent healers and protectors. I am a huge fan of early art depicting withes and witchcraft. My favorite book to look at is “Witchcraft. The Library of Esoterica” and you can find it HERE.
My most recent obsession is to bring my images to life using video and GIFs. I’m having so much fun with it, in fact I am OBSESSED.
In recent years, there has been a renewed interest in witchcraft and magic, with many people embracing these practices as a way to connect with their spirituality and reclaim ancient traditions. However, it is important to note that modern witchcraft is not necessarily connected to the persecution and fear that characterized the history of witches.

Overall, the history of witches is a complicated and often painful one, but it has also been shaped by resilience, creativity, and the human desire to seek knowledge and understanding of the mysteries of the universe.
