A Mysterious Warlock - Seattle Senior Fantasy Photo Shoot

Seattle witchy photographer

Hello witches and warlocks.

Blessed Be.

For whatever reason, I mainly get hired to photograph witchy woman, so I was very excited to get this request from some very awesome people to create a dark and surreal photo shoot for Dillanger’s Senior Photos.

Being a teenager is a unique and transformative phase of life that comes with it’s own challenges and experiences. Part of me thinks of teenagers as aliens, the other part of me remembers so well what it was like at that age, I can relate. A time of great identity exploration, being a teenager can be an emotional rollercoaster. I’ve been on that ride, it’s both exciting and fun, and also it can suck.

Like many young adults, the pandemic took a toll on this poor young soul, and both Dillanger and his mother wanted to have a senior photo shoot like none other, full of darkness and mystery. We told a story of a young man who prevailed through hard times using his strong will, and of course… a bit of magic.

Like me, Dillinger loves Game of Thrones, The Witcher, and other magical movies and books, and he’s also a huge music lover. Basically I knew that we could just go hog wild.

Let’s talk about a male Witch.

Mystical Senior Photo Shoot

Historically, the term "warlock" was often associated with witchcraft and referred to a male practitioner of dark or forbidden magic. In folklore and mythology, warlocks were depicted as male witches who possessed supernatural powers and used them for both good and evil purposes.

However, in modern fantasy literature, and popular culture, the term "warlock" has taken on a different meaning. It is commonly used to describe a specific type of magical practitioner or character. In this context, a warlock is typically portrayed as a male spellcaster who specializes in arcane or dark magic. They are often depicted as having innate magical abilities or making pacts with powerful supernatural beings, such as demons or otherworldly entities, to gain their magical powers.

Warlocks in fantasy settings often possess a wide range of magical abilities, such as casting spells, summoning creatures, manipulating energy, or wielding dark and forbidden magic. They are often characterized by their mysterious and enigmatic nature, and their motivations can vary greatly depending on the specific story or fictional world they inhabit.

It's important to note that the interpretation of a warlock can differ across different works of fiction or cultural contexts. Therefore, the exact nature and characteristics of a warlock can vary depending on the specific source material or the creative vision of the author or storyteller.

Thank you Dillan and Tasha for choosing me, trusting me, and conjuring magic with me.

Fantasy photography is a captivating genre that allows for the creation of imaginative and surreal images. It often involves storytelling, magical elements, and a touch of whimsy. Here are some key aspects and ideas related to fantasy photography:

  1. Concept Development: Fantasy photography starts with a concept or theme. You can draw inspiration from fairy tales, mythology, literature, or your own imagination. Develop a narrative or idea that you want to convey through your images.

  2. Location and Setting: Choose a location that complements your concept. It could be a forest, castle ruins, a beach, or even a studio with elaborate sets and props. Consider the atmosphere, lighting, and overall ambiance to create a fantastical environment.

  3. Wardrobe and Makeup: Costumes, props, and makeup play a crucial role in fantasy photography. They help bring your characters and story to life. Pay attention to details, such as intricate costumes, accessories, and special effects makeup to enhance the fantasy elements.

  4. Lighting and Editing: Lighting can set the mood and evoke a magical feel. Experiment with natural light, backlighting, or artificial lighting techniques to create a dreamlike atmosphere. During post-processing, you can enhance the fantasy elements by adding digital effects, adjusting colors, or using photo manipulation techniques.

  5. Characters and Storytelling: Incorporate characters into your images to tell a story. Whether it's mythical creatures, mystical beings, or enchanted objects, they can add depth and intrigue to your fantasy photography. Consider the interactions and relationships between the characters to create compelling narratives.

  6. Special Effects: Fantasy photography often includes special effects to create magical or otherworldly elements. This can be achieved through props, practical effects on set, or post-processing techniques such as adding sparks, glows, or ethereal elements.

  7. Embrace Creativity: Fantasy photography allows you to unleash your creativity and explore the extraordinary. Don't be afraid to experiment with unique compositions, perspectives, and unconventional ideas. Push the boundaries of reality and let your imagination run wild.
