GOTHIC SENIOR PHOTO SHOOT - Seattle Goth Senior PhotographY

This senior- to-be is a non-binary creative masterpiece. She made most of the jewelry you see them wearing, and this is their grandmother’s bracelet. Love that they brought their grandmother with them to join us.

Her mother emailed me and told me that they were looking for something more creative, more THEM. They also did their own make up, which looks AHHMAZING, and they brought a few black dresses. I brought all the props, the cape, the gear and the smoke effects. We played in the forest for almost two hours. It was not warm, and they were a trooper. This photoshoot was so much fun. Their mother joined us, and was such a help.

I am starting off with this image, as it is one of my favorites of 2023!

When I first talked to this beautiful human on the phone before the shoot, they told me the very thing I hear so often…. “I am awkward in front of the camera.” Just look at them absolutely slaying this shoot! I assured them that we would be so busy doing things, that they would forget about the camera, and that I have a way of making people comfortable during a shoot. I hope I delivered!

I thought it would be fun to research the word “Gothic” since the word brings up such visuals for me. For some reason, I always think of Vampires and I hear really cool music.

The term "gothic" is versatile, encompassing architectural, literary, subcultural, artistic, and linguistic meanings. The interpretation often depends on the specific context in which the term is used.

There is gothic music, fashion, as we are all aware.

Gothic Architecture- so cool to read about. Originally referring to a style of architecture that emerged in medieval Europe, Gothic architecture is characterized by pointed arches, ribbed vaults, and flying buttresses. Examples include cathedrals such as Notre-Dame and Westminster Abbey.

Linguistics: Gothic Language: An extinct Germanic language, also known as the East Germanic language, spoken by the Goths. The Gothic language is known from a limited body of literature, including the translation of parts of the Bible.

Art and Aesthetics:

Gothic Art: In a broader sense, "gothic" can refer to a style of art characterized by dark, mysterious, or eerie themes. This can extend beyond literature and architecture to include various forms of visual arts. Makes me realize, my art IS GOTHIC.
